Imphal, July 12 (EMN): The cases of contagious African Swine Fever (ASF) have been once again detected at a piggery farm Manipur’s Bishnupur District, officials said on Monday.
The ASF cases were first detected at Dang Farming, a private piggery farm under Grihang village in Kamjong district earlier this year while pigs of a government run piggery farm at Hiyanglam in Kakching district were also detected last month.
The ASF was detected among the pigs in the Rainbow Piggery Farm located at Leimaram Makha Leikai village under Bishnupur district.
The Bishnupur district officials said it has become expedite to issue containment measures to prevent spread of the disease in the area in view of the impending threat of the disease.
“The areas falling within 1 km radius from the Epicenter of the disease is declared as infected zone and areas falling within 9 km radius from the Infected zone is hereby declared as surveillance zone for taking up control and containment procedures,” said a government order by office of the Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur district.
The step has been taken up under section 6 of “Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009.”
No pig shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area, the order said.
There will be ban on sale of pig, pork, feed and related items while any person, institutions or organisations found violating any of the containment measures would be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under the said Act, it read.
Later the same cases were confirmed among the pigs of a government run piggery farm at Hiyanglam in Kakching district last month.
