ASDC, KSA and KNCA oppose ST (H) status to Bodos
Our Correspondent
Diphu, Aug. 12: Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Karbi Students Association-Suren Hanse and Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) have jointly opposed the move by the government to confer ST (H) status to Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
In a joint statement by ASDC, KSA, and KNCA have stated that ST (H) status is given to backward tribes like Karbis, Dimasas and others, who cannot make progress and advancement in respect of political, social and economic.
Therefore, there is no justification in the decision to confer ST (H) status to Bodos who are already an advanced plan tribe.
On the other hand the Karbis, Dimasas and other hill tribes were given ST (H) status that has a long political and historical background. It would be totally wrong to confer the ST (H) status to Bodos without proper and deep assessment of their political and historical background, the statement said.
The ASDC, KSA and KNCA therefore demanded upon the KAAC authority, MLAs and MPs from Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao to convince both the state and central government to stop the process of granting ST (H) status to the Bodos as it will have a wide ranging social, political and economic ramification, it said.
