DIPHU — The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), a regional party active in the three hill districts of Assam, has expressed dissatisfaction and discontent over the draft proposal published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies and Assembly constituencies in the hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

In a press conference held at ASDC central committee in Diphu, the Publicity Secretary, Daniel Teron referred to the memorandum submitted to the Secretary, ECI, in regard to the draft proposal for delimitation of Parliament and Assembly constituencies in the state of Assam on June 20, 2023. The memorandum stated that the ASDC is not satisfied with the draft proposal published and further reiterated to create two more parliamentary constituencies in addition to the existing one seat reserved for the scheduled tribe (Hills) for the three hill districts of Assam namely Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

It is imperative to mention that most of the assembly constituencies in many northeastern states were created with 5000 voters or less than that, hence there is strong justification that the existing assembly constituencies in the hill districts with over one lakh voters should be created into several constituencies to give fair representation, the ASDC memorandum read.
