ASDC demands to create more seats

DIPHU – The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), a registered regional party with the Election Commission of India (ECI), has demanded to create two more seats from the existing one seat of the No.3 autonomous district (ST) parliamentary constituency, while the existing five LA seats be increased to as many as thirteen more seats for Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

Speaking to media persons during a press conference held at ASDC central committee office here on Thursday, the party president, Chandra Kanta Terang, alleged anomalies and discrepancies in the draft proposal published by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Going by the representation submitted to the ECI on July 13, 2023, Terang said in the process of delimitation as many as eighteen polling stations which are under 20 No. Baithalanso LAC in West Karbi Anglong was included in the proposed No. 63 Hojai LAC, No. 61 Roha (SC) LAC and No. 52 Jagiroad (SC) LAC.  He added that the area under Maisam Goan and four other villages of Punja Barpathar area of Baithalangso LAC have been transferred to Karbi Anglong district from Nagaon district vide Government notification No. HNP.283/75/12 published in Assam Gazette September 3, 1975. 

The president said Article 330 (1) (c) and Article 332 of the Indian constitution should be strictly adhered to while undertaking the process of delimitation for parliamentary and assembly constituencies for the three hill districts in Assam. He added that the publication of a draft delimitation proposal for the three hill districts should be done based on members of autonomous council constituencies under LA segment-wise.

Terang has further sought immediate rectification of anomalies and discrepancies as shown in the draft delimitation proposal.
