Kohima, Nov. 23 (EMN): The Angami Sports Association (ASA) felicitated the 2nd North East Olympic Game medallists from Angami community on Wednesday at Talimeren conference hall, Nagaland Olympic Association office complex in Kohima.

Altogether 33 medalists from the four Angami units — southern, northern, western and chakro regions — who represented the state of Nagaland were felicitated.

Citations included INR 3,000 for each gold medalist, INR 2,000 for each silver medalist and INR 1500 for each bronze medalist.

Viketouzo Meyase, vice president of ASA, the apex sports body of the Angami tribe, lauded the sportspersons for bringing laurels to the Angami community as well as the state of Nagaland.

While the association has been conducting ASA Sports Meet comprising different disciplines, he informed that they were felicitating even those athletes who fetched medals in other events during the North East Olympics.

In the days to come, he asserted that the association would include more disciplines in their events.

Invoking God’s blessings, Vimegokho Chüsi, pastor of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Church, Kohima, reminded players to acknowledge God for the blessings endowed upon them.

Lhoubeizo Kesiyie, president of ASA, attributed the success of the athletes to God.

Having conducted ASA 50th anniversary sports meet already, he felt that it was a breakthrough for the Angami sportspersons to achieve such a feat at a mega sports event like that of North East Olympic Games after such a long time.

While applauding the athletes for bringing honour to their community as well as the state, Kesiyie reminded them to be humble and disciplined while continuing to strive harder to scale higher to compete in national and international arenas.

Neiketoulie Belho, who won the best athlete (men’s U-20) during the Olympics, was among the athletes who were felicitated on the occasion.
