Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): In view of the rise of Covid-19 cases in the state, advisor to Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, on Friday called on the Nagas to put extra efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

Stating that the state is no more a green zone, he appealed to all the citizens to gear up and work collectively in the fight against the global pandemic.

According to an update received here on Friday, the advisor who is also one of the in-charges for Wokha district on Covid-19, was addressing stakeholders and officials of the Sanis Additional Deputy Commissioner, headquarters in Wokha.

Yanthan visited Lakhuti village and Sanis ADC on May 28 and the 29th, to review the preparedness Covid-19 and also on receiving of returnees arriving from outside the state.

In Lakhuti, the advisor while interacting with village councils and public leaders, urged them to strictly follow the preventive measures and guidelines issued by the government.

Despite the shortage of doctors and nurses in the district, he said authorities are giving their best for the safety and wellbeing of the people and further sought co-operation and support from all sections of the society.

He informed that the district has so far arranged 18 quarantine centres which will accommodate about 662 persons.

“It is not only about containing the pandemic crisis, but we need to address socio-economy of the state,” he said.

Citing that the global economy is in a recession period due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, and Nagaland being dependent on other states and countries for survival, the advisor underlined the need to explore strategy and policy to make effective implementation on production of local food grains through agriculture and other allied sectors.

He also said that the government has an important role to play in imparting skills to the young people and prepare them how to live and contribute for future.

“We have to teach them sophisticated social skills that will enable them to become change-makers in our society,” he added.
