Mokokchung, Dec. 1 (EMN): As the blockade against Nagaland imposed by Assam-based organisations on National Highway 702D (Mokokchung-Mariani road) stretched for the 17th day on Tuesday, the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir, has assured the public that there is sufficient stock of essential commodities in the market.
He requested the public not to resort to panic-buying and cautioned all traders to adhere to the price of essential commodities fixed by the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC).
He informed that the district administration along with officials of MMC and Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) had conducted an assessment of stock and checked the price of essential commodities at Mokokchung town on November 29.

Meanwhile, the MCCI has stated that it is ‘ready to go the extra mile’ to ensure that the market is stable under any circumstances.
The traders’ group issued a statement assuring the public that there is sufficient stock of all commodities in the market and the price is stable.
It further assured that efforts are being made to replenish the market to meet public demand without any hitch, despite the economic blockade.
In this connection, MCCI has requested the public not to resort to panic-buying as it will create an artificial scarcity of goods and commodities in the market. Further, it has requested the public not to fall prey to rumours or unconfirmed reports.
“It is the policy of the MCCI to ensure that all goods are sold in Mokokchung below the prescribed rates set by statuary bodies in the best interest of our esteemed customers,” it stated.
The MCCI warned all traders and businesses that strong punitive action will be initiated against those who indulge in unethical and illicit business practices like price hike and hoarding, and take undue advantage of the prevailing situation.
