DIMAPUR — As many as 1200 displaced persons from Churachandpur district, who were evacuated from Imphal to Kangpokpi district following the recent communal violence, were shifted to Churachandpur district today.
Many residents of Churachandpur district were among the thousands of displaced persons evacuated to Kangpokpi district since May 5 and have stayed at various relief camps in the Kangpokpi district, source stated.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]With the initiative of the Kangpokpi district administration, in collaboration with the Kangpokpi District Relief Committee, Kangpokpi Town Relief Committee, Kangpokpi District Police, Assam Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force, the residents of Churachandpur district, who are willing to go to their district, were shifted today under heavy security.
The displaced Churachandpur residents settled in Kangpokpi district who wish to return to their district gathered at Brig. M. Thomas Ground as early as 4:30 am in the morning, while they could only depart at around 11:30 am.
The shifted persons including men and women, young and old, children, and a few sick persons were transported in as many as 15 vehicles.
It was later informed that the 1200 displaced people have reportedly reached Churachandpur Peace Ground at around 3:30 pm in the afternoon.
