Arms licensees asked to report

Dimapur, Feb. 16 (EMN): With preparations on for the general elections to the Lok Sabha for 2019, the establishment of the district election officer for Kohima has ordered arms licensees to deposit their arms and ammunitions. This is in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India to ensure preventive action for peaceful, free and fair elections, and to preserve public peace.
Updates from the DIPR on Saturday stated that the district’s election establishment has directed all license holders in Kohima district to deposit their arms and ammunition to the nearest police stations on or before March 20.

‘The arms and ammunitions so deposited shall be kept in police custody till one week after the declaration of result. The officer in charge of respective police stations shall issue receipt to each depositor and also maintain proper records and safe custody of the arms. The order also stated that non-compliance shall lead to cancellation of arm license and other penal action as per relevant section of law,’ the DIPR’s updates stated.
