Arms ban on UG cadres during by-poll

CARRYING of arms by the cadres of the NSCN groups engaged in ceasefire, including card holders, has been banned from August 28 till the results of by- election to 51 Noksen A/C are officially announced.
Chairman of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) Lt Gen (Retd) NK Singh has written to all the three NSCN groups today informing them about the ban.The CFMG Chairman’s letter follows Tuensang DC’s notification for depositing all firearms in Noksen A/C. Police and other security forces have also been informed accordingly, a press release issued by Consultant to CFMG chairman, Shukom Yim said.
“This endeavour is to ensure that all relevant laws are fully respected in the run-up to the election,” the letter said.
Singh also appealed to all the groups to fully cooperate and let the election be held in a peaceful and conducive atmosphere. He hoped that there would be no incidents of harassment, intimidation or any other violation of the Cease Fire Ground Rules.
The CFMG Chairman also extended his good wishes to the voters of Noksen A/C.
He stated that a healthy and vibrant election campaign addressing maximum voters was the hallmark of democratic politics.
He said hoped to see totally free and fair elections in the true spirit of democracy, sating that each voter has a stake in the future of the constituency.
He also wished a happy experience for the young first-time voters who would be casting their votes on September 4.
Gen Singh also lauded the administration, police, Assam Rifles, other security forces and all election officials concerned for their ongoing efforts to ensure that each voter is able to happily exercise his/her right to vote for whichever candidate they like/prefer, without fear or coercion, in a tension-free environment.
