DIMAPUR — Vethozo Lohe, who won a gold medal in the 78 kg youth category (right arm) in the recently concluded World Arm Wrestling Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was accorded a hero’s welcome on his arrival at Dimapur Airport on Monday 2.

The reception, organised by the Western Chakheshang Hoho (WCH), saw family members, well-wishers and supporters congregating to celebrate his remarkable achievement at a global event.

Lohe, hailing from Phek district, also secured fourth position in the left arm category while his teammate Avilie Zuyie from Rüsoma village, Kohima, was placed fourth in the under 86 kg youth category (right arm) and fifth in the overall left arm category.

During his interaction with media persons, Lohe revealed that he had dedicated over three years of rigorous preparation for this competition.

Lohe expressed gratitude to Yanpvuo Kikon, his mentor, and Neli Dominic, their dedicated trainer.

Conveying a message to the Naga youth, he said that with faith in God and hard work, nothing is impossible.

Advisor of WCH, Dietho Rhakho, extended hearty congratulations to the gold medalist and stressed that it is a moment of celebration and an opportunity for everyone to draw inspiration.

Rhakho also urged all Naga youths to take note that the world’s doors are wide open for them to pursue their dreams and achieve success.

During the event, Lohe’s father expressed heartfelt gratitude to Yanpvuo Kikon saying he has been a guiding mentor to his son. He also thanked the Nagaland government for the financial assistance.

The 19-year-old Lohe clinched the gold after taking down Georgian arm wrestler Luka Tabagua in the finals.

It may be mentioned that Team Nagaland, comprising of eight players won a total of 14 medals for the state this year, and got selected for the World Armwrestling Championship. However, due to financial constraints and passport issues, only Lohe and Zuyie could take part in the championship.
