MOKOKCHUNG — Arkong emerged as the champion of the 5th Mokokchung Inter-ward Football Tournament (MIFT), defeating their arch-rival Artang with a score of 3-1.

The showdown took place on Saturday at Mokokchung’s Imkongmeren Sports Complex, where Arkong and Artang met for the second time in the MIFT final. Arkong faced Artang in the first MIFT, and they defeated their arch rival 1-0 in 2019.

The first half of the match was filled with near-miss opportunities for both teams; however, in the 45+2nd minute, Aripong stunned the Artang team when he converted, taking down two defenders with a throw-in assist just before the break, making it 2-0.

In the second half, Artang had a fantastic opportunity when they won a penalty in the 60th minute. Tongpang Lemtur took the shot 2-1, boosting Artang’s morale for a comeback, but the young boys of Arkong demonstrated their resilience by thwarting numerous critical strikes.

Seven minutes later, Talitemsu extended Arkong’s lead with a free kick assist near the D-Box, securing the championship title for the second time.
