KOHIMA — Assam Rifles Ex- Servicemen Association (ARESA) celebrated its golden jubilee with pomp and gaiety at 1st Assam Rifle camp in Kohima on Thursday.

Extending greetings during the celebration, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles-North (IGAR-N), Maj. Gen. Vikas Lakhera, emphasised the importance of building good relationships between people and groups in order to honour and respect each other. He acknowledged the former soldiers of Assam Rifles, who have tirelessly rendered their service to the force and nation.

He recalled that people in Kohima in the earlier days were simple and there was no water shortage adding that even the roads were narrow but without traffic congestion as there were only a few cars.

Highlighting that the aim and goal of Assam Rifle was to unite the people, he said, “We should, we will and we are serving the people with full commitment in areas where there are lack of basic facilities.”

Saying that they derive their strength from the people, Lakhera optimistically stated that “there can be a solution for everything” when unity and love exist among the people.

As each soldier has their own part of the story, he encouraged the ex-servicemen to write and share some of their stories and experiences. This would help people understand what they have accomplished and contributed to the nation through their services.

He further extended financial help towards the office of the Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen Association and assured to look into the issues of the association in the best possible way.

Merman Pradhan, president of ARESA, highlighted a brief history of the association which was formed on August 24, 1973, and informed how they observe its anniversary event annually.

He also apprised the support given by the HQ of IGAR  through various means. Presentation of songs and dance as well as recitation of patriotic poems marked the celebration.
