Dimapur, May 15 (EMN): In its continued efforts on seizure and apprehensions, the Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S), apprehended a drug smuggler carrying brown sugar worth INR 1.16 crores at Permanent Vehicle Check Post (PVCP), Khudengthabi.
According to an update from the PRO (Defence) received here on Wednesday, on May 14 based on specific input from a reliable source, a team from Khudengthabi post stopped a black colour autorickshaw, without registration number which was moving from Moreh to Khudnegthabi.
On carrying out a thorough check of the vehicle, 42 packets of orange coloured powder suspected to be brown sugar and weighing approximately 582 gms (including packing material) was found hidden inside the body of the autorickshaw.
The contraband was being transported by a person named Jampao Khungsai, age 40 years of Khudengthabi village in Manipur.
The approximate cost of brown sugar is INR 1.16 crores, added the update.
