AR pays homage to Kargil martyrs

Dimapur, Aug. 4 (EMN): Commemorating the supreme sacrifices of all the martyrs who laid down their lives during Kargil War 1999 (Operation Vijay), Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR) headquarters (North), organised a function at the memorial of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse on August 3.

Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse laid down his life in the line of duty for the nation and was awarded the Mahavir Chakra (posthumously).

Capt. Neikezhakuo Kenguruse of Nerhema village was born on July 15, 1974. He did his schooling at St. Xavier School, Jalukie, and graduated from Kohima Science College. He served as a teacher at Government High School, Kohima, from 1994 to 1997. He was later commissioned into the Indian Army on December 12, 1998. He attained martyrdom during Kargil War on June 28, 1999, while destroying enemy bunker and killing four enemy soldiers.

Another serving war hero from Nagaland, Subedar Imliakung Ao, MVC, of Second Battalion of NAGA Regiment, was also present at the function. During Kargil War, Capt. Kenguruse volunteered to undertake a daring mission for capturing the enemy mortar position and ammunition.

A defence release stated that his determination, grit and raw courage in the face of enemy was exemplary in the true traditions of the Indian army. The gallant Naga warrior accomplished the mission without a single casualty.

Maj. Gen.  PC Nair, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), all ranks of the formation, villagers and family members of Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurusue, along with ex-servicemen and school children paid homage at his memorial at Pheza, which is located near his native village Nerhema.

The ceremony included wreath laying by IGAR (North) and Neiselie Kenguruse, father of Capt. N Kenguruse and other officials. It was followed by a prayer ceremony conducted by pastor Vinanyli.

Speaking on the occasion, Neiselie Kenguruse expressed pride over the sacrifice made by Capt. Kenguruse.

Subedar Imliakung Ao, MVC, in his own words narrated the horrific instances of intense battle as seen by his own eyes.

Saluting the martyrs for their exceptional act of bravery, Maj. Gen. PC Nair, spoke of Captain N Kenguruse and Subedar Imliakung Ao, being a source of motivation and inspiration to all ranks of the Armed forces and exhorted the youth to emulate them.

The school children present were inspired to join the Sainik School at Punglwa by the General Officer. It was followed with a prize distribution ceremony to the winners of the painting competition named after two valiant MVC winners from Nagaland.
