Dimapur, Feb 13: In a series of intense operations on underground outfits, security forces arrested one ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) linkman in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, officials said on Monday.
PRO (Defence) Col C Konwer, in a press release today, said security forces has struck another blow to ULFA(I) and NSCN(K) by arresting one Alan Rai, ‘self style’ Runapeyu. He was arrested by the Jairampur Battalion under the aegis of DAO division in Old Khamdo village in Arunahcal Pradesh on February 12.
It said Alan Rai was apprehended basing on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of one cadre trying to ‘terrorise and attempting forced extortion’ in Old Khamdo village. The battalion swiftly launched an operation and apprehended the Self Styled Runapeyu with blank letter heads of ULFA(I) and NSCN(K), the press release stated.
Post spot interrogation, he admitted allegiance to ULFA(I) and NSCN(K), further divulging that he has been actively assisting and acting as Runapeyu for both the organisations for last four years during which time he has had regular contact with ‘self style’ Sergeant Rupam Asom of ULFA(I). It said security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South alp adding the arrested had struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area. It added that the operation has tightened the noose around the groups and brought relief to the local population.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles has reaffirmed to stand by the motto “Friends of the north east People.”
In a related incident, troops of 32 Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (North) alongwith police representative apprehended two individuals during an operation in Burma Camp Bridge area, Dimapur, on February 11 and recovered three live rounds, one misfired case of 303 Rifle, one USA made knife and one cash receipt of NSCN (K).
The individuals were identified as Boka (35), son of Zuulho and resident of Sakhato village, and Khekugha (38), son of late Yekivi and resident of Kheoi villages.
On interrogation, it was revealed that both were working as OGWs of NSCN (K). The individuals alongwith the recovered arms and ammunition were handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur, for further investigation, AR press statement said.
