AR foils cross-border smuggling

Imphal, Oct. 8 (EMN): Troops of Assam Rifles foiled cross-border smuggling of drugs at Khudengthabi in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on Oct. 7, according to a press release.

Based on specific input, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted and checked three individuals driving two wheelers in the general area of pineapple farms, the PRO Assam Rifles(South) said.

On searching the vehicles, 4127 gram of brown sugar packed in 100 soap cases and 2133 gram WIY tablets in two packages were recovered from the individuals, it said.

The seized narcotics were assessed to be worth INR 9.24 crore, it added. The recovered drugs along with the suspected smugglers and the two wheelers were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.

Another troop of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) also foiled cross border smuggling of drugs at Permanent Vehicle Check(PVC) Post, Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal on October 7.

During routine checking of vehicles, troops of Assam Rifles checked a white EECO van at PVC Post, Khudengthabi. On search the vehicle, 290 gram of brown sugar packed in seven soap cases were recovered. The drugs were concealed under the driver’s seat. The seized narcotics were assessed to be worth INR 58 lakh. The recovered drugs along with the smuggler and the vehicle were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation, it added.
