DIMAPUR — Commemorating ‘International Day of Rural Women,’ the Phek battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (North) headquarters flagged off a National Integration Tour (NIT) to Delhi for members of Mothers and Widows’ Association of Phek district in Phek town on October 15.
The tour was flagged off by the commandant of 38th Assam Rifles, Phek, Col. Prasant Singh Chundawat.
An update from the Phek battalion of Assam Rifles stated that a total of 16 women from Mothers and Widows Associations are taking part in the tour. The tour was aimed at providing an opportunity for women to venture beyond the Northeast region, explore various inspirational and renowned institutions, and experience the luxuries of metro cities.
The tour would incorporate interactions with national dignitaries and visits to monuments of national importance like India Gate, National War Memorial, Red Fort and Taj Mahal among others. The women would also be given an opportunity to travel by metro train and visit the airport, shopping malls and famous marketplaces of New Delhi.
IT added that the tour would give exposure to the tribal women to experience a kaleidoscope of metro life experiences and open new horizons for them that would bring positive changes in their lives.
More importantly, the tour programme was aimed at promoting national unity and integration.
