AR continues with wildlife conservation programme

Dimapur, Sep. 3 (EMN): Troops of 44 Assam Rifles has organised an awareness campaign about the unique migratory bird ‘Amur Falcon’ for the students of Government Middle School, New Chungtia village in Mokokchung district on August 30. Dimapur, Sep. 3 (EMN): Troops of 44 Assam Rifles has organised an awareness campaign about the unique migratory bird ‘Amur Falcon’ for the students of Government Middle School, New Chungtia village in Mokokchung district on August 30. The birds travel between China and South Africa as part of its migratory cycle and have several roosting sites in Nagaland and Manipur during its migratory journey. Altogether, 145 students alongwith the teaching staff attended the lecture with active participation. The lecture helped in awakening the youth towards the need of wildlife conservation and preservation of such rare species in the habitat of Northeast. The campaign concluded with informal interaction with the students and teaching staff who promised to spread this awareness in the remote areas of the region.In a related programme, troops of 9 Assam Rifles conducted a lecture on ‘Amur Falcon’- the migratory bird, and Drug & HIV/AIDS free Nagaland at Primary School in Kezo town on August 30.An approximate 100 students alongwith teaching staff attended the lecture cum awareness campaign. The lecture highlighted upon the characteristics of the migrant bird, its long journey to Northeast region and importance of protection of Amur Falcon. At the end of the lecture, all the participants pledged to conserve the migratory birds. The students were also counselled on the social menace of drugs and HIV/AIDS, its repercussion and ill effects on healthy lifestyle. Students were sensitised to ‘Say No’ to these evils and make Nagaland drug & HIV/AIDS free.      In an unrelated programme, troops of 15 Assam Rifles had organised a cleanliness drive at C’ Saddle on August 30.  Altogether 70 children and villagers participated in the event and cleaned the area and motivated to spread the awareness amongst other villagers toward Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
