Apple to make India-made iPhone 15s available on launch day
American tech giant, Apple, is all set to launch the new iPhone 15 on September 22. However, what makes this launch particularly significant is that the company, for the first time, will offer India-made iPhone units to customers right from day one.
Apple is showing its confidence in India’s manufacturing abilities by launching its latest iPhone 15 lineup with units made in India right from day one. This decision highlights Apple’s dedication to expanding its production beyond China and reducing its reliance on the country.
This move comes at a time when China has banned the use of Apple products by government officials and is actively supporting local competitors like Huawei. In response, Apple has been increasing its manufacturing efforts in India, aiming for a reliable alternative and access to India’s large consumer market.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models for the Indian market are being produced at the Foxconn factory in Tamil Nadu. These iPhones, proudly bearing the “Made-in-India” label, will be offered for sale in “other regions” alongside those made in China.
Apple’s manufacturing journey in India began in 2017 when it started assembling earlier iPhone models. Since then, production in India has seen significant growth, reducing the gap with Chinese manufacturing facilities. Notably, for the iPhone 14, the lag between production in India and China was reduced to mere weeks from the previous nine months.
Currently, 7% of iPhones are made in India, and experts predict that this will increase to 25% by 2025.
Regarding pricing, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will begin at INR 79,990 and INR 89,990 for the 128 GB storage options.
