DIMAPUR — The chairman of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Abu Metha, inaugurated an “Apni Pathshala” centre at Government High School, Sovima in Chümoukdema, on March 8.

Apni Pathshala is an NGO that focuses on establishing computer learning centres in communities throughout India. Its goal is to bridge the digital divide and provide educational opportunities to students from various backgrounds.

Speaking at the inaugural programme as the chief guest, Metha lauded Dr. Aniruddha Malpani, the founder of Apni Pathshala, for including schools from Nagaland among the 100 schools across the country.

He emphasised that the internet and technology are impacting every aspect of life and stressed the importance of adaptation for individuals to keep up with the changing times.

Noting that the responsibility and challenge of realising computer literacy among children lie with the teachers, he expressed that if the teachers are not technologically prepared, they will struggle to adequately prepare and educate the children.

He underscored that the quality of education hinges significantly on the calibre of teachers. With over 1500 government schools spread across Nagaland and nearly 200,000 students enrolled in these institutions, the education infrastructure plays a crucial role in catering to the needs of the most vulnerable, particularly in rural areas, he added.

While delivering the welcome address, Nellayappan B, deputy director of the department of School Education (DOSE) and OSD to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, shared that this marks the inauguration of the fourth school where “Apni Pathshala” has been established in Nagaland.

The Apni Pathshala has provided ten sets of computers to the school.
