Apex women organisation in Noklak demands justice for 2 molestation victims

Tuensang, Aug. 2 (EMN): The Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH), apex women organisation in Noklak headquarters, has resolved to organise a silent protest from Tuesday, August 3, to demand justice for two minor girls who were allegedly molested by former Noklak Deputy Commissioner Reny Wilfred.

The KMH decided to protest at a joint meeting with Khiamniungan Students’ Union and Tsuwao Students’ Union on Monday.

According to sources, the two girls were working at the former DC’s official residence as domestic helpers when the alleged molestation incident happened. The victims reportedly told that they were threatened to remain silent about the assault and were offered money and other materials to hide the act.

The incident reportedly came to light when the minor girls refused to work at the DC’s residence before approaching KMH and filed a complaint at Noklak Police Station on July 27.

According to sources, it was confirmed that the victims are safe at a centre that supports women affected by violence.

Reliable sources also informed that an FIR has been filed regarding the molestation case and investigation is being initiated.

In a clarification issued on August 1, the KMH said that its appeal to the Chief Secretary for transfer of the former DC earlier last month was done with “no ill intention” but “at its best interest”. In its letter, it had appealed to ‘every right-thinking citizen to come forward and support the demand justice for the two minor victims’.

The Department of Personnel and Administrative reforms (P&AR) had on July 29 transferred the former DC and posted him as Joint Secretary of the Home Department, while Hiazu Meru was posted as the new DC of Noklak.
