Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): After years of confusion over the existence of two Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO), the Zeliang community in Nagaland has ‘dissolved’ both the organisations and formed a unified apex body.
The new apex organisation has been named ‘Zeliang Tribal Council Nagaland’, according to a press release from the council on Monday.
The decision to form the new body was taken during a general convention of Zeliang people of Nagaland held at Jalukie town in Peren district on September 13, it informed.
The convention was an initiative of the Zeme Council Nagaland and the Liangmai Council Nagaland, in association with Zeliang Welfare Society Peren.
Three village council representatives, and women, youth and church representatives, from each recognised Zeliang village, along with representatives Zeme, Liangmai and Zeliang officers association attended the convention, it stated.
The convention resolved that no ZPO would be allowed to represent Zeliang tribe in any manner in any platform henceforth.
An interim body with Dr. Tumda Newme as convenor was constituted and tasked to install a new team of office bearers by the month of October, it informed.
