Ao community to forgo Moatsu festival celebrations again

Mokokchung, April 23 (EMN): In the awake of increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Mokokchung district, the deputy commission Limawabang Jamir has ordered all the villages/ unions in the district to refrain from celebrating the upcoming Moatsu festival.

Moatsü festival is a premier festival of the Ao Naga, which is celebrated in the first week of May every year after sowing is done for bounty harvest.

In an order issued on Friday, the DC has directed to suspend all inter-state weekly markets in all towns/ sub-divisions/ villages till further notice. It also urged all the inter-state travellers to strictly follow the laid down Covid-19 protocols/ SOPs and co-operation with the authorities.

The order specifically mentioned all its citizens to co-operate with the authorities during contact tracing/testing.

The order further warned that any person/ groups acting in violation of the aforementioned orders would be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under the relevant section of the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 and the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The DC also stated that the resolutions adopted during the district task force on Covid-19 meeting held on April 23 would strictly be implemented in the entire district of Mokokchung.
