Aongza Ward forms SEMB for cleaner and healthy community

Mokokchung, Sep 2 (EMN): In an ambitious move for a cleaner and healthy community, the Aongza Ward authority today launched the Socio Environment Management Board (SEMB)- a first of its kind, with Er. Yanger Pongen, EE PHED Mokokchung Division, as the chief guest.
Addressing the launching programme at Pongentola GMS premises, the chief guest underscored that development or modernisation should start from waist up and congratulated the Aongza Ward authority for launching its unique board towards environmental concerns to make the ward a clean zone within the town.
He informed that nearly 50 percent of the deaths in children below five years in India is due to unsanitary condition, adding nearly 15 lakhs recorded death due to unsanitary conditions.
In this connection, he drew the attention of the people towards the polluted Milak River, which supplies abundance of fresh water then but now has become a hazard river because of dumping wastes.
Pongen opined that we have huge responsibility to make the first step starting from our own ‘kitchen.’ He added that the department through its various Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) initiatives will try to work hand in hand with the Ward authority to realise their dreams.
The SBM brand ambassador and president of the Ao Senden, Imliyanger Jamir also lauded the people of Aongza Ward for their progressive thinking and attributed as an essential initiative people needed today. He further encouraged the people to be ambassadors for this movement so that the success of the SEMB would be assimilated by others.
President of All Ward Union Mokokchung Town, R Ayim Longkumer urged all to contribute towards this initiative adding if there is no sacrifice, unity, patient, and endurance from the concerned citizens then it would be in vain.
Tinumayang, convener of the SEMB drafting committee, informed that the Board consisted of 25 members including 10 members from blocks, 6 members from women group, 5 members from youth association, one technical consultant, one legal consultant and ex-officio from ward authority.
The tasks of the SEMB relate to sanitation, PHED, electricity, health, animal husbandry, traffic and parking management, ward beautification, roads and bridges.
Short speeches were said by R Longritemjen Ao, chairman of Aongza Ward Authority; Pajung, MMC Superintendent; and Lima Aier, chairman of SEMB. Dr. Aoyimsen Jamir, secretary of Aongza Ward, proposed the vote of thanks, while invocation was offered by Temsuwati Kichu, associate pastor of MTBA, and the benediction was said by S Daniel Jamir, pastor of CRC Mokokchung.
