The Aokong-Lengrijan Bridge inaugurated on July 20.

Dimapur, July 21 (EMN): The long-awaited bridge connecting Aokong/Veterinary colony, Mon Bosti with Lengrijan was inaugurated by MLA Dimapur II AC Moatoshi Longkumer on July 20.

An update issued on July 20 informed that Longkumer initiated construction of two bridges in the constituency under “Iconic Project” of LADP for the year 2019-20 and the first bridge connecting Boro Lingri to LRC Colony and Notun Bosti was inaugurated in February this year.

During the short inaugural programme chaired by the pastor of Sumedem Fellowship, a member of Aokong Council expressed gratitude to the legislator for construction of the bridge, stating that several ministers and MLAs failed to materialise the project spanning over the last 15 years.

He said that “today (July 20) is the happiest day for the people of Aokong, Mon Bosti and Lengrijan as this bridge is the lifeline for the people of these colonies”.

“The chairman of Lengrijan reiterated that the bridge was always on their developmental agenda as it benefits residents living on both sides,” the update said, adding that “one should be vigilant against the movement of social evils traversing the bridge” as its construction is now completed.

The district planning officer conveyed his appreciation for the good work done on behalf of the Department and urged the colony residents to plants more trees.

“The MLA said that construction the bridge would not have been possible without the divine intervention of God as there was no sanction for such a project. However, in the midst of everything, the government of Nagaland increased the LADP allocation by INR50 lakh more to be used for an ‘Iconic Project’ in the constituency. Though the guideline was to take up just one project, the amount was less for a big undertaking but was sufficient for the construction of two bridges as this was in high demand by the residents of these colonies considering the hardships faced by them,” the update read.

He further added that no project is too big or impossible if the funds are used judiciously and honestly. He also thanked all the individuals involved in making the Aokong-Lengrijan Bridge, for remaining committed to its success in spite of the many problems faced during the lockdown.

The inaugural programme was attended by the Council members of Lengrijan, Aokong, NPF Party functionaries and well-wishers, the update added.
