MOKOKCHUNG — The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has issued a strong call for immediate implementation of the prescribed pay scale for members of the Nagaland RMSA Teachers Association 2016, following a landmark ruling by the Gauhati High Court on March 16, 2022, and upheld by the Supreme Court on May 20, 2025.
In a press release, the AKM stated that the judgment validates the teachers’ demands for fair compensation, recognising their recruitment through rigorous competitive exams and interviews while acknowledging their critical role in shaping Nagaland’s education system.
The student body also, highlighted the urgency of implementing the court-ordered pay scale to ensure financial recognition for the teachers’ dedication to their service and their role in shaping the students’ future.
“This decision is a vital step toward acknowledging the teachers’ contributions and fostering a conducive teaching-learning environment,” the release noted.

Further, it emphasised that timely implementation of the pay scale would not only honour the teachers’ service but also directly help in fostering a more conducive teaching-learning process, ultimately benefiting the students whom they are devoted to educating.
The AKM warned that further postponement could demoralise highly qualified and trained educators, with severe repercussions for Nagaland’s education system.
“The government must respect and act on this ruling without delay,” the AKM urged the state government.
While extending full support of the RMSA Teachers Association, the student body also cautioned that inaction might push teachers to protest publicly, if the state government does not prioritise compliance with the court’s directives promptly.
The statement also highlighted the improving performance in government high school exam results, crediting the hard work of RMSA teachers.
The AKM, however, raised alarm over the non-payment of salaries since March 2025, calling it disheartening and detrimental to teacher morale.
“Supporting teachers is the same as supporting students,” it asserted, stressing that investing in educators is an investment in Nagaland’s future.
WSSU condemns defiance of court order
The Western Sümi Students’ Union (WSSU) has condemned the state government for failing to comply with court order concerning the NRMSATA 2016 batch.
In a press release, the union pointed out that on March 16, 2022, the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, ruled in favour of the teachers on the issue of scale pay, and the verdict was reaffirmed by the Supreme Court on May 20, 2025, directing the release of all pending salaries and arrears.
Yet, five months on, the state government continues to withhold teachers’ rightful dues — an act both disgraceful and unacceptable, it stated.
“Teachers are the backbone of education. Denying them justice is not only contempt of court but also an attack on the future of our society.
“The WSSU demands the State Government to immediately implement the Court’s ruling and clear all pending dues without further delay. The Union extends its full support to the rightful demands of the RMSA teachers, as per the ultimatum served on 13th August 2025,” the release added.
