MOKOKCHUNG, JUNE 18: Led by the Ao Naga community’s apex organization, the Ao Senden, hundreds of citizens from three wards of the town namely Aongza, Kumlong and Mongsenbai ward repaired a road of around three kilometers starting from the IOC point to Sewak Gate on Saturday.
The road, also a lifeline for the neighboring districts of Tuensang and Zunheboto had been left unattended and was gradually degrading for some years now.
Gigantic potholes had appeared over the years much to the chagrin of commuters not to mention the difficulties to heavy truckers and commercial transport.
Recently, the Border Roads Organization had handed the charge of the road over to the Public Workds Department (National Highway). However, ‘complete charge’ was not given to said department, but said to be ‘still under process.’
The Ao Senden’s president Imolemba Jamir said on Saturday that the organization had ‘reviewed’ the immense hardships being faced by the people and commuters due to the pathetic condition of the road. In that line of concern, the AO Senden decided to spearhead the community work after consultations with local authorities of the three wards of the town.
The Senden’s president also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the wards’ authorities who endorsed the proposal positively and provided volunteers for manual labour, besides the district administration, PWD (NH), Mokokchung Municipal Council and well-wishers for providing machineries as well as monetary contributions.
The local authorities of Mongsen Bai ward also said the wards used to repair the deplorable road regularly.
The working citizens filled up gigantic potholes along the road using excavators and dumpers, aided by manual labor.
