DIMAPUR — The Kohima Ao Pensioner Telongjem (KAPT) on Friday held its 2nd general meeting at Molu Ki in Merhulietsa, Kohima, on the theme ‘How to live a healthy life physically, mentally and socially.’

Dr. Tali Longkumer, consultant gastroenterologist from Dimapur, who spoke on the theme, emphasised that to have a good physical health and to avoid health problems, one should stay physically active by engaging in regular exercises to improves one’s energy, stamina, reduce fat accumulation, make the bones strong and stress-free lives besides maintain a balance diet and adequate sleep.

He advised the members to have regular checkups though they feel fit and strong to diagnose any illness or diseases that might be developing in the body.

Dr. Tali also highlighted the importance of routine checkups for individuals, who have hereditary diseases, people engaged in bad personal habits, patients suffering from diabetics, blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, cancer etc.

While stating that physical and mental health are closely related, he explained a disease-free person is not healthy if his mental and social being are not normal and called upon the members to maintain a sound mental health by having healthy interactions with neighbours, friends, associates, take vacations and seek medical counseling if one is facing depression, anxiety etc.

Stressing on social healthy life, he called upon the members to maintain and build a healthy social connection by staying connected with families, friends, neighbours, communities and to refrain from living in isolation,

In his exhortation, Lanu Toy, retired chief engineer, said retirement is not the end but the beginning of a new life with new responsibility to serve the family, society and community.

“Our work is not finished as long as we are alive from childhood to old age,” he said.

During the programme, a welcome address was delivered by its president, Dr. Watijungshi, while the vote of thanks was proposed by assistant general secretary, N Wati Atsongchanger. The secretary report was presented by Limawati Longchar, and the audit report was announced by Ajung Amer.
