Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): Abdon Mech is a gifted singer and songwriter from Nagaland who started writing songs at a very young age. He is an artist who is known for his beautiful guitar licks, melancholic lyrics and a voice that soothes the soul to the core. His originals include “Again”, “Carpe Diem” and “Granted” which you can listen to on major streaming platforms including Spotify and YouTube.

This young artist shared with Eastern Mirror about his upcoming music video titled ‘Give me my soul back’ which will be released on February 27 on his official Youtube channel.

Eastern Mirror: How excited are you for the release of your new music video on February 27?

Abdon Mech: I am quite excited about it but also there is a really daunting feeling. We have been building up to this for the last two months, and a lot of work involving a lot of people has gone into this extensive project. It is also my first time acting in front of a camera so I am a little anxious but definitely excited too!

Eastern Mirror: How has the Covid-19 pandemic affected you, both personally as well as professionally?

Abdon Mech: From a personal note, it was not too bad. Sure, it hampered the plans that I had for my music but it also pushed me to come up with new plans. Whether or not it was for the better, I cannot say, but I do know that I am at a good place right now. I am satisfied with the amount of work I have done with my music during the lockdown.

Eastern Mirror: What is the new music video about? What inspired you to write the song?

Abdon Mech: The music video centres around bullying and comes from a personal space. The DOP for this project Sanen Kichu came up with the concept and I immediately knew I wanted to do it because it felt honest to me.

The song is a simple reflection of the soul and how sometimes it can be easy to lose it.  To me this ‘soul’ is reflective of my music and how the pandemic took away all the plans I had for my music. Soul here is subjective and open to interpretation. It could mean a lover, a book, a song, a cup of coffee or a drive past your favourite street.

Eastern Mirror: How was it working with actors like Imkong Longchar among others?

Abdon Mech: It was an honour and an amazing experience to say the least. Imkong is a top job professional and also so easy to work with. He knew exactly what he had to do and helped the rest of us with our roles too. I also have to give it to my friends who are not actors but absolutely nailed their roles. They all brought so much to the table and I walked away having learnt so much from the experience.

Eastern Mirror: What are your future plans? Are you working on any project currently?

Abdon Mech: After the music video, I am putting out my debut EP. It is in the final stages of production so it is almost done. Once the EP is out, the plan is to do a North-East India tour and cover as much cities as possible in the region pushing the record.

Eastern Mirror: What can fans expect from your upcoming music video and any message for them?

Abdon Mech: ‘Fans’ is too big of a word really. I would rather fancy ‘listeners’ and I want to thank everyone that has been so supportive of my work till now. It was not easy being an independent artist here but their support keeps me going. Hopefully, this music video will show them a different side of me and give them something to cheer for.

Give me my soul back‘ will be released on YouTube on February 27 on Abdon Mech’s official YouTube channel. You can listen to the official audio version below:
