Dimapur, May 11 (EMN): While highlighting the immense hardship due to non-release of salary, the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) has sought the intervention of the Nagaland Chief Secretary for release of two months salary.

In a letter to the chief secretary, ANSTA apprised that the teachers, whose livelihood depended on their salary, were denied their wages for over two months and forced to endure untold hardship.

“Prior to the ordeal of having to endure difficulties caused by non-payment of salary for two consecutive months, the teachers had been patiently and silently bearing the brunt of deferred payment of salary for several months too,” stated ANSTA president, Kasheto Sumi, and the general secretary, Pekinto Y Jimo.

It mentioned that the salary, of late, has been made no earlier than the 10th of every following month despite the government’s standing order which directed the payment of employees’ wages before the end of every month or on the 1st day of the following month.

While urging the government to understand the financial difficulty faced by the teachers, ANSTA stated that non-payment of salaries for over two months was an absolute infringement upon the employees’ fundamental rights guaranteed in the Constitution of India.

The association has appealed to the government to immediately release all pending salaries, failing which it threatened to undertake democratic means of agitation for justice.
