Dimapur, May 5 (EMN): Dimapur unit of the All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) has demanded uniform school academic session of April-March for all schools in Nagaland along with the rest of the country from this year, saying that it would result in manifold benefits for all the schools.

ANPSA Dimapur, in a press release issued by its president Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, regretted that there has been no action taken till date by the concerned authorities on the matter of a uniform school academic session of April-March despite numerous reminders from both ANPSA central as well as district units since 2015. It stated a uniform academic session for all schools would be beneficial for the school management, students, parents and teachers.

ANPSA Dimapur pointed out that under present NBSE system, the school session is from January to December with two examinations- one from primary classes to 9 and 11 which is conducted in November till first week of December and another for class 10 and 12 which is held from February till March. It stated that the present system leads to a lot of confusion and adds to the burden of the schools as well as the parents.

It stated that November, December and January are mostly the festive months of the year in Nagaland along with marriages taking place almost everywhere, which might lead to a lot of distractions for those students writing their final exams in mid-November till the first week of December. Conversely, it stated students from Classes I and above, who have completed their exams by December, contribute to lots of distractions during the class 10 and 12 Board exams taken in February or March.

ANPSA Dimapur felt that with the introduction of a uniform session, students would enjoy the festive season especially the Christmas as they would have less stress about studies. It added that the exams under April-March session are conducted only in the last part of February or beginning of March.

The ANPSA Dimapur also stated that under a uniform school academic session the workload of the management and teachers would be lessen as there would be a common academic calendar for all the schools. Besides, it stated that the DoSE’s directives and plans could also be easily adhered to by all schools alike especially while updating their UDISE data.

ANPSA Dimapur went on to point out that it would help those students seeking admissions outside the state and vice-versa as the state would be at par with the rest of India when it comes to conduct of examinations in one academic session. Additionally, it would also facilitate those students intending to appear for competitive and entrance examinations.

It would also benefit the parents, guardians as well as teachers as they would be able to enjoy the winter vacation without any stress since there would be only one final exam without creating any hassles for those parents who have more than one child studying across different classes or different boards.

It further stated that a uniform academic session would ensure smooth conduct of academic and co-curricular programmes of individual schools. Moreover, schools across different boards could effectively plan out inter-school activities when there is a common academic calendar for all the schools.
