DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA), Pfutsero division, in collaboration with Common Visions Foundation for Children, organised a one-day professional development workshop on “Awareness of inclusive education and whole school approach to inclusion” on March 14 at Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero.
A total of 130 teachers from 14 schools under the Pfutsero division attended the workshop, which aimed to strengthen educators’ understanding and practices related to inclusive education, an update stated.
The workshop was facilitated by Lanusongla Lemtur, founder of Keystone Education Society, who served as the resource person.
The sessions focused on helping teachers better understand diversity in classrooms and the importance of creating inclusive learning environments where every child feels valued and supported.
Participants engaged in discussions on diversity, equality and inclusion, reflecting on the realities of varied learning needs, backgrounds, cultures and abilities present in classrooms.
The session also explored special education needs (SEN), emphasising early identification of learning challenges, appropriate support systems and collaboration with parents and specialists.

Another key segment highlighted different models of disability, particularly the medical and social models. The discussion emphasised that barriers to learning are often created by societal attitudes and environments, rather than by the disability itself.
The workshop stressed that inclusive education goes beyond placing students with disabilities in regular classrooms and requires transforming teaching methods, curriculum and school culture to ensure meaningful participation for all learners.
Teachers were encouraged to adopt flexible teaching strategies, differentiated instruction and empathetic classroom management. School leaders were also urged to support inclusive policies, provide adequate resources and promote a culture of respect and collaboration within schools.
The concept of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) was also introduced, emphasising the importance of designing lessons, materials and assessments that are accessible to all learners from the outset.
Delivering the keynote address, Rev. Dr. Chekroveyi Cho-o, executive secretary of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council, appreciated ANPSA Pfutsero division for organising the programme to raise awareness on inclusion among school leaders and teachers.
He emphasised that all human beings are created in the image of God and possess equal dignity.
Quoting from the Book of Psalms, he said every person is intentionally and intricately designed by God with purpose and care, adding that people with disabilities should not be viewed as cursed.
He further remarked that in a culture that often celebrates perfection, schools can become platforms where inclusion becomes the norm and safe spaces are created to nurture and protect the marginalised.
Earlier, the introductory session was led by Sr. Lukhamliu Agnes, vice president of ANPSA Pfutsero division, while Thujongoyi Dazo, president of ANPSA Pfutsero division, welcomed the participants and the resource person.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Thepuhu Thira, president of ANPSA Phek unit.
