Another Manipur Cong MLA resigns

IMPHAL, DECEMBER 1: One more Congress MLA, Janghemlung Panmei, from Tamenglong constituency in Manipur’s Tamenglong district has tendered his resignation from the party and from the post of MLA, sources said on Thursday. Manipur goes to polls early next year.
He was also the general secretary of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC)
With Panmei’s resignation, so far, four senior Congress leaders and MLAs have left the ruling party. The other three are senior-most Congress leader and former Food and Civil Supplies, Education and Public Health Engineering Minister Yumkham Erabot of Wangkhei constituency, former Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Nongthombam Biren of Heingang seat both in Imphal east district and former Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Francis Ngajokpa.
Erabot left Congress on September 12 this year and joined the BJP.
Biren also quit the Congress on October 6 while Ngajokpa, MLA of Tadubi constituency in Senapati district on October 13. All of them have joined the BJP recently.
In his resignation letter to MPCC president TN Haokip on Wednesday, Panmei said, “…I am withdrawing my primary membership of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee in the interest of the people of my constituency and the people of Manipur.”

Manipur NPF gets 39 applications for tickets 

The Manipur unit of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has received 39 applicants for the party’s ticket as on November 30. Applicants include candidates from the 14 Hill assembly constituency and one Valley assembly constituency, a note from the unit informed on Thursday.
“More applicant for party ticket are coming as NPF party is the oldest regional party in NE India and the only recognised local party in the state.
The party is mobilizing hard to win the confidence of the people and get elected of all the seats that the party set up,” a note from the unit stated.
