DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 13

Angry youths from 13 colonies under Dhobinala-Signal-Thahekhu road on November 13 demolished an ‘illegal’ business establishment near the IOC depot which according to a local Joint Action Committee (JAC) was an ‘illegal construction’.
According to various sources, the youths were forced to evict the ‘encroachers’ when the deed-holder of the land threatened some senior members of the locality and refused to corporate with the ongoing road constructions in the said area being carried out by the PWD department.
According to the JAC members, a ‘service centre’ which was started a few years ago was on encroached land that actually belongs to the government.
On being queried, the JAC members said that a survey along the road that was made in the recent years clearly showed that the land was maintained by the revenue department.
On the other hand, according to some other sources, the person who claims the land has legal rights on the land with a ‘permit from the Dimapur administration since December 2006 claiming that he was the genuine ‘patta’ holder of the land.’
The JAC further notified that they have informed and approached the administration, police officials, and the department in concern ‘to come about with a solution.’ Some officials from the administration visited the spot later in the evening.
