DIMAPUR — The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has issued a statement, directing Mao citizens to leave the Angami areas, “on or before March 17”, citing the failure of the Manipur government to withdraw its armed forces from the disputed site.

In a statement of support to the ultimatum served by the Angami Public Organisation (APO), the AYO claimed that the presence of Manipur armed forces within the disputed site under the alleged patronage of the Mao Council has been the primary stumbling block in resolving the impending issue, despite the APO’s intention to bring about an acceptable and honourable solution.

It viewed the inaction and the negative response of the Manipur government and the Mao Council is a “direct challenge” to the entire Angami community, and as such, an emergency meeting was held with all the four ranges, during which the decision was taken.

The four ranges include the Northern Angami Youth Organisation, Western Angami Youth Organisation, Southern Angami Youth Organisation, and Chakhroma Youth organisation.

It also said that the AYO and its four ranges have the AYO along with its four ranges decided to carry out an extensive exercise on the census of Mao populace living/residing within the Angami jurisdiction.
