Dimapur, June 3 (EMN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has announced that it will launch an indefinite hunger strike from June 4 until the state government, among other demands, sacks the incumbent director of Technical Education. In a charter of demands addressed to the chief minister, the union reiterated its demand to take action on officials involved in the misappropriation of ‘State Technical Scholarship’ fund amounting to INR 1.32 crore. Its other demands include immediate implementation of all kinds of scholarship schemes; immediate action on settlement of Kohima Science College land issue and all other government colleges/institute land issue; advertisement of the 110 assistant professor sanctioned posts through Nagaland Public Service Commission under department of Higher Education, Nagaland; and investigation into all kinds of scholarship schemes implemented in Nagaland. ENSF ultimatum to government Another student body, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has served an ultimatum to the state government. A press release from the ENSF on Monday stated that repeated appeals to the state government to ‘redress the relaxation policy’ have been ignored. “It is pertinent to mention that the Federation has demanded the concerned authority (sic) to immediately redress the relaxation policy concerning the representation it had served on relaxation policy for obtaining the professional qualification for those candidates belonging to six tribes viz: Chang, Konyak, Sangtam, Khiamniungan, Yimchungru, Phom since the relaxation policy had come into force on 9th January, 2009 for a period of ten years,” it stated. According to the federation, even after demanding that “adequate” B.Ed colleges be introduced in the eastern districts of Nagaland as existing institutions cannot accommodate aspiring eastern candidates seeking admission, “the government has now only made it impossible” to address the grievances of eastern Nagas. It has asked the state government to fulfil its demand before June 13.
