Dimapur, June 8 (EMN): To address the problems confronting the students, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has proposed several remedial measures to the Nagaland University (NU) such as setting up of more colleges offering post graduate courses, facilitation centres, appointment of assistant professor/ associate professor, issuing of meritorious certificate and medal, pass certificate and migration certificate etc.

In a memorandum to the vice chancellor of Nagaland University, ANCSU has apprised for an urgent need of more colleges offering post graduate courses. The union earnestly appealed to the university to promptly assess those eligible colleges who have applied to offer post graduate courses and approve the same for the forthcoming academic session.

The union opined that it would enable few aspiring students to study master courses in the state itself and also effectively facilitate the underlying problems arising from the global pandemic.

The ANCSU’s memorandum jointly appended by its president, Vimeyiekho Vitso, and the general secretary, Imnameren N Jamir, has also urged the university to set ‘facilitation centres at NU Meriema campus and SETM Dimapur campus. The union has urged for facilitation centres as many colleges are facing massive inconveniences to travel to Lumami for receiving and dispatching files and necessary documents due to long distance. It stated that the centres should facilitate submission and receiving of files and necessary documents.

The ANCSU has also suggested the university come up with online payment provisions to the university by the colleges or transactions be made through the facilitation centres.

ANCSU also appealed to be vigilant in appointment of assistant/ associate professors by both private and government colleges by strictly adhering to the University Grant Commission (UGC) guidelines with requisite qualifications. It also requested the university to be vigilant in regard to payment of salary by institutions to the faculties as per the UGC norms.

ANCSU also appealed to the university to issue meritorious certificates and medals to the subject toppers annually during the time of issuing marksheet/ convocation. ANCSU stated that it has been felicitating degree toppers since 2018 and observed to be of great encouragement to the students.

While acknowledging the commitment made by the university in declaring the degree results on time, ANCSU appealed to the university for timely release of necessary documents to enable the students seek admissions in other institutes outside the state. It pointed out that students, over the years, have faced untold hardship in acquiring their original pass certificate and migration certificate.

The union further urged the competent authority to take up the genuine demand on priority.
