ANCSU appeals to students to lead Clean Election drive
Dimapur, Feb. 12 (EMN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has appealed to all in concern to ensure fair and ‘clean’ elections in Nagaland. Likewise, the organisation has appealed to college students to support and spearhead the Clean Election movement in campaigns and ‘in practice as students are the prime youth force of the state.’
A press release appended by the union’s president and general secretary on Mon. acknowledged the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, its units and other organisations for spearheading the Clean Election campaign.
Citing records of the Election Commission that in Nagaland the age group of 20-29 years comprise 23.9% of the electorate making it the second highest group, the ANCSU urged students to be the ambassadors of the clean election movement to their family, relatives, clan, village, and constituency.
“The impact of the ill practices during the time of election is the consequences for poor developmental activities that cover the educational sector which directly affects the students’ community,” the press release stated.
The organisation has appealed to political parties and candidates ‘to have a vision in the field of education and elevate the education system of Nagaland.’
The union stated that conducting fair elections will be in the benefit of citizens and ‘particularly raise the bar of standard and quality education in Nagaland which has been the continuous prayer of many.’
The ANCSU will continue to fight against activities that affect the students’ community, it stated.
