Dimapur, Dec. 8 (EMN): Realising the vast commercial scope in bamboo cultivation, the All Nagaland Bamboo Growers and Processors’ Association (ANBGPA) has expressed desire to impart required information to those who wish to learn more about bamboo cultivation and processing. It informed interested individuals to contact its office located at Naharbari, Dimapur.
The association president Phushito Sumi and general secretary Yanlumong Yim stated that it had invited a scientist, Dr. N Barathi, director of Growmore Biotech Ltd. Tamil Nadu, to Nagaland on June 11 last. Accompanied by the team of ANBGPA members, Dr. Barathi visited and inspected the bamboo plantation areas of Dimapur district besides testing the soil for suitability and viability of bamboo cultivation.
ANBGPA team also had a meeting with Dr. N Barathi and visited Growmore Biotech Ltd. bamboo research centre and laboratory in Sipcot, Tamil Nadu on November 11 last. It stated that the visit to the centre enlightened the ANBGPA team on technical information on bamboo. The association also informed that bamboo scientists would visit its office from time to time to impart more information on the subject.
ANBGPA acknowledge the initiative and efforts of the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) for distributing saplings all across the state. Stating that one cannot always depend on the government departments or agencies alone, it felt that the growers and processors should also put in the effort for bamboo development in the state.
With the vast commercial scope in bamboo, the association stated that it is making all efforts to encourage the farmers towards bamboo cultivation and its processing. Besides, it also planned to assist by giving a platform at national and international expos and fairs to display the fine bamboo crafts of the state.
