Amur Falcons play important role in maintaining ecosystems, says Manipur Forest minister

Imphal, Oct. 22 (EMN): Manipur’s Forest, Environment and Climate Change minister, Awangbow Newmaisaid that Amur Falcons play an important role in maintaining the ecosystem of many countries, while requesting the public to support the protection of the birds in Tamenlong district during the migratory season (Oct. to Nov.).
The minister was speaking at the launch of “Save Amur Falcon 2021” or “Gaklou Dikho Akhoipuina 2021” posters campaign at Tamenglong Forest Inspection Bunglow on Thursday.
The poster release programme was organised by Tamenglong Forest Division and Rainforest Club Tamenglong.
Stating that the hunting of Amur falcons may attract unwanted legal actions such as imprisonment up to three years in jail and also monetary fine up to INR 25,000, the Forest minister added that they are friends of farmers as they devour many harmful insects, locusts, beetles, termites etc.
To inculcate the love and compassion of these migratory birds, the Forest department is going to celebrate the State Level Amur Falcon festival at Chiuluan village in Tamenglong district during the second week of November 2021.
