IMPHAL, April 20
Expressing serious concern over the chance of losing academic career of students studying in catholic schools, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) today asked school authorities to re-open their respective schools from April 21 so as to enable the students to resume their normal classes. Around half a dozen catholic schools have stopped their normal classes from April 1.The decision was taken after giving a deep thought to safeguard the career of the student from further losing, according to president AMSU Sanasam Subhachandra in a hurriedly called press meet held at its office near DM College Imphal on Monday. If necessary, he added, the student body would sent its volunteers to guard at each school by making human chain from April 22 as an effort to have normal classes. AMSU leader further said that they felt it is important for guardians and others allied individuals or organisation to extend their support in their decision.
The student leader added that the demand of the particular UG group may have been considered if it was placed not only against the catholic schools. However, he added, that it was enforced only to the catholic schools but not to other private schools. He added only students studying in catholic schools are missing their classes after the imposition. The student body asked the particular UG group to review their decision or arrange an alternative means so that it will not hurt or harm the careers of the students.
The student body said that their decision was taken not to challenge any individual, groups or organisation but to work for the welfare of the students.
They added that the student body had made many appeals however they there was no positive response. Similarly Democratic students’ alliance of Manipur also appealed for the immediate resumption of normal classes in the catholic schools in the state.
