DIMAPUR, JUNE 25: In commemoration of the first anniversary of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) interacted with the press and community leaderships at the DMC office complex in Dimapur on Saturday.
Dimapur city, which is to be developed under the AMRUT scheme for 2015-2016 along with 500 other cities of the country, has four projects in the pipeline that have been approved for development, said the DMC’s administrator H Atokhe Aye. The four projects include water supply, sewerage, septage and urban transport.
However, the water supply and sewerage development were found to have been already taken up by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of Nagaland two-three years ago, the media was informed. Realizing that it would be contradictory if the project were to be pursued by the DMC, the two projects have been tied to the PHED, DMC executive engineer Badal Badra said.
Under the urban transport mission component, two areas have been identified for foot over-bridges namely one at the Deluxe point and another at Dhobinalla. Very soon, it was informed, funds will be allocated for execution of the work components, the executive engineer said.
Divulging details about the AMRUT scheme to be implemented for development of Dimapur city, Atokhe Aye remarked that the AMRUT was one of the flagship programmes of the centre. It is an ‘open project’ without any ‘concealed programme,’ he explained.
The day was certainly a significant day for the DMC as participants took the platform to laud the yeoman service rendered by the municipal council for the development of Dimapur city. However the DMC administrator continued to reiterate the importance of maintaining the various developmental works that the municipal council had worked on. Aye appealed to the colony GBs and councils to deliberate on bringing out firm resolutions and conditions in their respective colony to maintain their areas.
During the course of interaction between DMC officials and citizens, a participant suggested to the DMC to have a consultative meeting with representatives of Dimapur district before taking up any mission ‘so that both the parties can comprehend the mission objectives and smoothen the execution of works.’
GBs, council chairmen, members of the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries and other nongovernmental organization representatives attened the meeting too.
