Nagaland: Amit Shah, Nadda among star campaigners for Pungro polls

Kohima, Oct. 13 (EMN): The Nagaland state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has on October 12 announced its star campaigners which include National BJP president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for the by-election to the 60th Pungro, Kiphire assembly constituency.
A notification issued by the party’s president listed the national and state leaders for the event, in view of the by-poll scheduled to be held from November 3.
According to the list of star campaigners, it will be led by National BJP President JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah; and National BJP General Secretary (org.) BL Santosh; National BJP Vice-president Dr. M Chuba Ao; and Nagaland government advisor and the party’s national spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon.
The team also comprises National General Secretary Dilip Sakia; NE zone General Secretary (org.) Ajay Jamwal; Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda; and Union Minister of State for Sports Kiren Rijiju; the chief minister of Manipur N Biren Singh; Assam’s Minister and chairman of NEDA Himanta Biswas Sarma; Nagaland’s deputy chief minister and BLP leader Yanthungo Patton; State BJP president and Minister Temjen Imna Along, among others.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission of India had on October 7 issued guidelines regarding the use of ‘star campaigners’ for elections that are to be conducted during the pandemic.
The maximum limit on the number of star campaigners for recognised national/state political parties shall be 30 in place of 40; and 15 in place of 20 for unrecognised registered political parties, during the period of the pandemic.
