Amidst uncertainty NBSE exams begin

Dimapur, Feb. 14: Even as uncertainty gripped among the students over possibility of writing the annual examination till late Monday evening owing to State level bandh, the proposed Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) examinations for Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) and Class XI promotion began today without any report of untoward incident. The much anticipated High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations will begin on February 15.

The HSSLC and Class XI examinations began following notification by NBSE to conduct the examinations as per scheduled and the subsequent exemption by the tribal groups headed by Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and Nagaland ribes Action Committee (NTAC), spearheading the bandh, to allow students to appeared the NBSE examinations peacefully.

A day before the examinations, students along with their guardians were uncertain over their anticipated exams and fear of losing out on appearing certain entrance examination if the board exams were postponed.

However, guardians who have their children appearing exams had to sacrifice their day waiting for children outside the centre sitting through the entire period of examination because of the restrictions on vehicular movement.

Not just them, but the school authorities shared similar concern over issues of students’ career. “We were worried that the attendance of the students will be low with all the uncertainty but relieved that students turned up,” shared Principals of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Dimapur, and Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Dimapur.

GHSS Principal Watisangla Aier expressed, ‘if the exams have to be postponed, those students preparing to appear JEE and other examinations would have missed their chances of sitting for those exams. But glad that the exams are going as per scheduled and without any threat.’

CHSS Principal S Moatemsu Walling, also sharing the same sentiment, remarked ‘the lack of coordination led to all uncertainty earlier.’ He also pointed out that the students career is a long way process. He said the bandh will get over in a month, but the students career will be at risk if at all exams were postponed.

Guardians waiting for their children shared that transportation issue are of concern especially for those with no means of transportation and who have to walk till the examination centres.

Interacting with this Reporter, students without any means of transportation expressed worry of reaching their exam centres on time not to mention spending some few minutes for revision. With no means of transportation, few lucky students adjusted themselves in their friend’s private vehicles while those without any means had to walk the long road, who are already exhausted by the time they reach the examination centres.

It was just the first day of their examinations and the students including their guardians waiting for them shared they have a long way during the course of their exams if restrictions and bandhs continue.
