Amid lockdown, Ongpangkong Telongjem waives off rent for tenants

Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): Bringing relief to the tenants of Ongpangkong Ki, a housing complex, during the nationwide lockdown, the Ongpangkong Senso Telongjem, Dimapur (OSTD) and Ongpangkong Watsü Tejongjem (OWT) have waived off the house rent for the month of April.

Ongpangkong Ki, a residential housing complex is jointly managed by the OSTD and OWT, which is located at Zeliangrong village. The building houses eight families, mostly daily wage earners and one private girls’ hostel, an update received here on Saturday said.

Since the union could not provide any assistance to the tenants during the lockdown period, it agreed to waive off the house rent for the month of April, to give some relief to tenants, president, Temsupok Jamir said.

The caretaker of the housing complex, L Wapang Pongen expressed gratitude to the union for providing much needed relief to the tenants during the lockdown period.

The tenants thanked the union for their noble gesture to help the people in distress. Earlier on March 29, Ministry of Home Affairs had issued an order which stops landlords from demanding rent from students, workers and migrant labourers for a month.
