Ambulance drivers and attendants in Phek undergo first aid and basic life-saving skills training to handle emergencies effectively.

DIMAPUR — A training on first aid for ambulance drivers and attendants from all the blocks was conducted at the Chief Medical Officer's (CMO) conference hall in Phek on Wednesday.
The resource person of the training was Dr. Wemeri Khutsoh, Senior Medical Officer of District Hospital Phek, according to an update.
The main objectives of the training were to train the trainees on basic life-saving skills so that they can provide immediate assistance to injured persons before medical help arrives, handle road accidents effectively, and improve survival chances in critical conditions.

The trainees were orientated on what first aid is, its importance, and the importance of the availability of first aid in the ambulance. The resource person reminded the participants that every ambulance should have a first aid box.
The roles of ambulance workers and attendants and their responsibilities during emergencies were shared.
Dr. Wemeri also highlighted the important skills an ambulance driver and attendants should hold, such as good communication and teamwork, quick response, and knowledge of emergency equipment and procedures.
The ABCDE approach was also explained in detail, which can help ambulance workers respond quickly and prioritise treatment.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, an emergency procedure used when a person stops breathing or the heart stops beating, was also highlighted, and the steps for performing it were underlined.
