Amateur Naga wrestling club launches

EMN Dimapur, December 22 The Amateur Naga Wrestling Club was formally launched by Keyho Yore, a 92 year old veteran wrestler who took part in 1946 wrestling meet, with the motto “Fraternity in bout” at Kidima village on December 21. Keyho Yore believed that wrestling started as early as human history. Yore said wrestling took part in group/ team like Western Angami (Khonoma), Northern Angami (Kohima), Japfü, Chokri and he recalled that Khonoma team was awarded Rs.40 and he received Rs.20 as the winner prize in 1946 meet. The President of Amateur Naga Wrestling Club, Sahovi John Phinyo, who is also the son of former two times champion of Naga- Mizo Wrestling and medalist in free style at national meet Vitan Phinyo, while emphasizing on club’s goals and objectives said that the club is promote traditional games like wrestling with instilling modern techniques. He also stressed on the importance of balance diet. The club will also facilitated units/ associations for more participation in days to come, Phinyo added.
