Kohima, July 7 (EMN): Nearly 42,000 students from Nagaland have availed various scholarship schemes for the academic year 2019-20.
The list includes the first instalment of post-matric scholarship for scheduled tribe, state research and merit scholarship schemes.
The officer on special duty (scholarship), Higher Education, Keduosielie Keyho, told journalists on Tuesday said that INR 22,39,44,907 has been disbursed among 41,841 students. The central government’s share stands at INR 17,45,71,188; while state share is INR 4,93,73,799.
Out of the 41,841 students, 39,555 are staying within the state, while 2,286 are studying outside the state. The amount disbursed among students in the state is INR 20,25,92,533. The corresponding amount for students outside is 2,13,52,374.
The state merit scholarship and state research scholarship schemes are 100% funded by the state government. As for the post-matric scholarship (ST), funding pattern is 90:10 (90% central and 10% state), the officer said.
Post-matric scholarship for ST students of Nagaland is applicable only for Nagas of Nagaland whose parent/guardian income from all sources does not exceed INR 2.5 lakh annually.
For the year 2019-20, the scheme implementing agency has awarded it to 39,975 (ST) students of Nagaland amounting to INR 1939.68 lakh, as first instalment.
An amount of INR 21,66,43,000 has been proposed as the second instalment of central share, he said.
As for the state merit and research scholarships, it is eligible to all meritorious students who had scored a minimum of 80% in higher secondary level and a minimum of 70% in degree/post-graduate exams, Keyho added.
Non-Naga students studying in Nagaland are also eligible for this scheme provided they are in the top 10 list, it was informed.
The research scholarship is eligible only for Nagas of Nagaland who are pursuing M Phil/doctoral degree in any field from any recognised universities or colleges.
For the year 2019-20, the scheme implementing agency has awarded merit scholarship to 1734 students amounting to INR 266.21 lakh and to 132 research scholars amounting to INR 33.56 lakh, he said
Meanwhile, under the North Eastern Council-stipend and book grant, the funding pattern is 90:10. The scheme is eligible to all the bonafide professional students of Nagaland and the general students at large.
The minimal eligibility criterion for this scheme is 60% for north-eastern students and 70% for the general category. For the year 2019-20, the scheme implementing agency has selected 74 eligible professional students amounting to INR 16.62 lakh. The sanctioned is still awaited, the officer informed.
