Diphu, June 21 (EMN): Karbi Anglong police on Sunday arrested three wildlife poachers from remote villages under Dilai police station in Assam.

The three persons have been identified as John Thang (33), resident of Supermarket area in Dimapur; Muamuan Guite (27), resident of Duhlian village, Churachandpur in Manipur; and Ningmianlun Haokip (32) Churachandpur, Manipur.

The three, who were alleged to be rhino poachers, are from a group of seven involved in an encounter at Daldali Reserve Forest with Forest Guards on the evening of May 28, it was informed.

Out of the seven, one was killed in the encounter and three arrested a few days later.

On Sunday, the poachers were brought to Manja police station.

Karbi Anglong SP, Debajit Deori said, “An operation was launched over several days in different places under Dilai police station. After we arrested them, and on interrogation, they revealed information about arms. A party of ours recovered the arms from Kaziranga National Park. In the group of seven, one was killed in the encounter with the Forest Guards and arms recovered; and we already have arrested three. John Thang, Guite and Haokip are arrested now. But we have not recovered the rhino horn. Cases were registered in Bokakhat. It will take time. But, our case is not of rhino poaching, they were involved in creating trouble in villages by brawling and threatening people with arms.”

The SP said all officers of Karbi Anglong police were involved in the successful operation.

The arrest of the three persons led to the recovery of arms (AK-81 rifles) concealed underground on a hill near Kaziranga National Park.
